(6/10/2010) – The group that brings the award winning Days of '76 Rodeo to Deadwood and hosted the first Badland’s Circuit Finals Rodeo is proud to produce the first annual Badland’s Steer Roping Finals to be held on September 4, 2010.The event, which will begin at 4 p.m. at the historic Days of ’76 arena, which will host five go-rounds with the top 12 Badland’s Circuit ropers competing for the Circuit Championship and a trip to the 2011 PRCA National Circuit Finals Championship. “We are thrilled to host the Badland’s Steer Roping Finals,” said Jon Mattson of the Days of ’76 Committee. “These are some of the best cowboys, not only in the Badland’s Circuit, but also the entire United States. There will not be a shortage of quality ropers.” Ropers that are expected to compete will include National Finals Steer Roping qualifiers Bobby Harris of Highmore, S.D., and Ora Taton of Rapid City, S.D., along with local favorites like Coy Thompson of Whitewood, S.D. and PRCA All Around Champion Paul Tierney and his son Jess Tierney of Oral, S.D. The Days of '76 Committee knows a little bit about rodeos as they have hosted the “Small” and now “Medium Outdoor Rodeo of the Year" for several consecutive years during their annual celebration held each July. This award is particularly special to the Committee because it is voted on by the cowboys and cowgirls who compete all over the country each year. In 2010, the Days of ’76 Rodeo and Parades will be held July 27-31. Tickets are now on sale for the Badlands Steer Roping Finals. There are also hotel and ticket packages available.
