Fat Tire Festival Showcases Mountain Biking

PIERRE, S.D. – The Black Hills Fat Tire Festival is one of South Dakota’s Great Events of 2010. The fourth annual event will be held in Rapid City, May 28-31.

The festival strives to attract mountain bike enthusiasts from the region and across the country, and it is designed to promote the Black Hills as a world-class, mountain biking destination.
“The event is seeing more Web traffic than ever, and our local inquires are up too,” said Jerry Cole, Director of Parks and Recreation for Rapid City.  “This year's event is shaping up to be the best one yet.”

The 2010 festival will feature a downhill race, cross-country race, uphill race, a fat tire trail challenge and a triathlon. Featured rides will be a Mickelson Trail ride, Centennial Trail ride and many single-track rides throughout the Black Hills.  Riders of all ages and skill are welcome to participate in the festival.

In addition to those events, the three-day festival will include scheduled mountain bike races, live music, scenic bike rides and a bike swap. Vendors will set up on location with gear, bikes and food. This year’s event will be held in Founders Park, at the base of “M Hill” in Rapid City.

The Black Hills Fat Tire Film Festival will run in conjunction with the event. Featured will be two new mainstream mountain bike releases. Eight amateur films will also be chosen for prizes during the festival.

“The Black Hills Fat Tire Festival is not just for mountain bikers to enjoy,” said Jerry Cole. “It is a chance for the whole family to come and enjoy the food, socialize, watch the races and films, and enjoy one of Rapid City’s great parks.”
