Romancing the Snow Promotes Wintertime Tourism

RAPID CITY, S.D. (10/22/09) — Just as winter sports enthusiasts in the Black Hills anxiously await the first snowfall every year, the Black Hills, Badlands & Lakes Association awaits the delivery of its winter promotional magazine, Romancing The Snow. It’s here, fresh from the printer on Oct. 14!

The free, 64-page publication highlights wintertime vacations and tells about snowmobile trails, snowmobile maps, snowmobile resorts, snowmobile rentals and even snowmobiling etiquette. Big color photos and articles show South Dakota’s cross-country ski trails, downhill skiing and other winter fun opportunities.

This year’s edition also features four pages of fun in eastern South Dakota and a statewide Calendar of Events to help plan a winter vacation or weekend getaway.

In addition, the magazine tells readers how to find current road reports, snow conditions, ski lift ticket prices or where to climb a giant icicle. A six-page Guest Services Directory lists accommodations, restaurants and points of interest for a complete wintertime vacation.

An added bonus this year is “E-Romancing,” an Internet clone of the printed magazine. Display ads and service directory listings are hot-linked for instant access. Romancing The Snow 2.0 went live online Oct. 14 as another handy tool for travelers to plan their Black Hills winter vacations. Take it for a test drive! www.blackhillsbadlands.com/snow.

As South Dakota’s only all-winter magazine, Romancing the Snow is used by the SD Office of Tourism, chambers and other promoters to stimulate our state’s “second tourist season.” The BHB&L Association also sends single and bulk quantities of the magazine to about 1,300 ski shops, snowmobile dealers, AAA offices and info centers in a nine-state area and stocks them at select travel agencies nationwide. About 75,000 copies of the magazine were printed. For a single sample or for bulk quantities, contact Black Hills, Badlands & Lakes Association at (605) 355-3600.

“Dakotans seem to approach the season with good-natured defiance of Old Man Winter. It provides an opportunity to prove our hardy mettle. An excuse to savor the radiance and aroma of the fireplace. A time when snuggling really feels extra-good. Instead of dreading the cold season, we humor it, play in it, embrace it, romance it.”

NOTE TO OUR ADVERTISERS: Thanks again for placing your ad and your confidence with us. Here’s to another successful winter season! THINK SNOW!!
