(7-28-10) – The Kalisch Family of Lonsdale, Minn., won a free trip to the Black Hills – two trips, actually -- and to thank the Black Hills, the Kalisch Family bluegrass band will perform on Sunday, Aug. 1, at a fund-raiser for the Spearfish Art Center. Their show begins at 8 p.m. in the Spearfish City Park bandshell. Nebraska Couple Begins 'Vacation Makeover'HOT SPRINGS (7/9/10) – Mary and Don Nolin are no strangers to the Black Hills. Once a year they make the eight-hour drive from their Lincoln, Neb., home to tour the Hills and see the sights. In fact, they were married at Deadwood’s Franklin Hotel in 1995. But this week, the Nolins’ Black Hills experience will be like none before. They were the first winners to claim their prize in the “Vacation Makeover: Destination Mount Rushmore” contest. They won a free Black Hills vacation worth $4,000, plus a Kodak a Kodak Zx1 Pocket Video Camera. Fat Tire Festival Inflates TourismRAPID CITY, S.D.(6/25/10) -- The Black Hills Fat Tire Festival has come and gone, but its economic impact continues to be felt. The fourth annual event attracted a record number of racers and mountain-bike enthusiasts from across South Dakota and the region on May 28-31. Even though the 30 rides, six races and a film festival are over, the 2010 Fat Tire Festival is still boosting area tourism. Forest Wildflowers to be Featured at Deerfield Moon WalkHILL CITY, S.D.(6/16/10) -- Join the Black Hills National Forest on Saturday, June 26 at 7:00 p.m. for an educational walk featuring wildflowers and other plants of the forest. This one-mile roundtrip walk through open meadows over uneven ground is located west of Hill City near Deerfield Reservoir. Crazy Horse celebrates 20th rodeo, art showCRAZY HORSE MEMORIAL (6/14/10) -- Crazy Horse Memorial’s 20th annual Gift from Mother Earth Celebration will spotlight work by American Indian and Western artists Friday through Sunday, June 18-20. Show hours in the Memorial’s visitor center are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. |
